Values for Life

Overview
In today’s fragmented and fast-paced world, schools are among the last spaces where children can be nurtured with the values, dispositions, and life skills they need—not only to succeed but to build a just, inclusive, and peaceful society.
We are witnessing a deepening moral vacuum, growing civic indifference, and a failure of many social institutions to model values in action. If schools don’t lead the way, who will? If schools fail to act, the opportunity to shape a better future may well be lost forever.

The NEP 2020 places values at the core of education, reaffirming the need to instill moral, ethical, democratic, and epistemic values in every learner. The NCF calls for these to be developed holistically—through content, pedagogy, and school ethos.
At AMHARTA, we take this vision a step further through our peace education framework. Our programs help schools:
- Rethink and structure values education in ways that are meaningful and relevant to students’ lives today.
- Train children to become peacemakers—individuals equipped with conflict-prevention and conflict-resolution abilities, grounded in key knowledge, values, attitudes, skills, and capabilities.
- Embed life skills, social responsibility, and ethical reasoning into everyday teaching and classroom interactions.
- Cultivate a school culture rooted in mutual respect, empathy, care, and non-violence—not only among students, but across all school relationships.
We believe that peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but the presence of just and compassionate relationships. Education must, therefore, prepare children to build and sustain such relationships in their homes, schools, and communities.
To support this vision, schools are encouraged to implement ‘The Foundation of Peace’—a thoughtfully designed program in peace and value education. When implemented effectively, it helps children develop a deeper understanding of peace and equips them with the knowledge, values, attitudes, and skills needed to become active peacemakers in all spheres of life.
